Cold Calling for freelancers

in Selling Guides

Don’t do it.

It’s desperate, and it most cases annoying. If you have a good service and demonstrate it well enough, there are many better ways to generate leads. And they don’t involve 300 rejections, and a maybe.

Client relationships are like real relationships. Would you ever cold call your way to a date?

Just incase, here’s 5 solid reasons not to do it:
  1. It’s an unwelcome interruption for the customer
  2. It’s a great way to kill your motivation and your mood
  3. You won’t get to speak to the right person
  4. You are going to hate it
  5. The people you phone are going to hate it

The main reason I wouldn’t cold call, is that it is very inefficient. It takes a lot of time to do right, and even then there is a 10% conversion just to get a follow up meeting/call. There are better ways to spend your time.
